1) If I was living a life of confidence I would be completely at ease in every situation: social, professional, physical. TRUE/FALSE

If you feel that this is true then, like thousands of other people, you have a very high and possibly unrealistic view of how it feels to be confident. In our book we explain the difference between confidence and familiarity. To feel completely at ease in any situation, driving to work say, you usually have to be very familiar with it. The first time you ever took that route you probably didn't feel at ease. When you drive in a strange city you normally find yourself working quite hard, changing lanes, looking for signs, avoiding other drivers who seem to know where they are going and are in a hurry. But, if you are an experienced driver, you can still feel confident nonetheless. True confidence is more like a feeling of knowing that whatever comes up you will be able to handle it and achieve a successful outcome. It is possible to feel this way in most situations, whether you feel fully at ease or not.
